The American people have high expectations for the food they eat, the medicines they take, and the devices they use, for that matter, that all imports are safe and high quality. The world is becoming a more complex place, that is to say, that more of the things that we eat and more of the things we take and use come from other countries. In order to keep it safe, we have to continually improve. The American people enjoy the most safe food supply in the world. It’s not perfect, but it’s the best in the world and we intend to make it continually better. This is not just about food, it is not about, just about devices, it is about all imports, including toys, and machinery, and tires, and cars, and all the other things that we get from other countries. We expect over the next decade to see the amount of imports rapidly grow. Our purpose isn’t just to look at today, but it’s to anticipate tomorrow.
